As Easy to Apply as Conventional Paint
Liquid Vinyl Siding™ is a water base
coasting that can be brushed, rolled or sprayed. It's applied just like paint. The only difference
is that Liquid Vinyl is much thicker than paint and applied thick. When spraying it can be applied
in one thick coat. Brushing or rolling requires at least two coats to achieve the recommended film
thickness for long lasting performance. Any local painter can easily apply this coating. It is so
simple to apply that many homeowners have applied it them self.
General application guidelines
Procedures for your project may slightly differ depending on the type substrate being coated and its overall condition. You can speak to a representative from our technical support team for more specific instruction for your project.
Always start with a clean surface
A clean substrate is vital for a proper installation. Surfaces should be thoroughly by pressure washing or hand wiping to remove oils, waxes and other substance that can interfere with adhesion. To remove mold and mildew, a solution of 1 quart bleach and ⅓cup all-purpose liquid household or laundry detergent in 3 quarts of water can be effective. It is important to rinse surfaces thoroughly with a strong stream of water after using detergents or chemical cleaners.

Surface Preparation
A problem-free installation requires a properly prepared substrate. The same principals used to prepare a surface for a quality paint job should be used when applying Liquid Vinyl Siding. The basic steps are similar. Surfaces must be in generally good repair - repair damaged surfaces and replace rotted boards. Remove loose, peeling and alligatoring paint by scraping or sanding until down to a sound layer. The existing paint does not necessarily need to be removed if it is sound and in good condition. When there are concerns about the soundness of an underlying paint layer it is best to remove the questionable layer than relying on its stability.
Check the adhesion and soundness of the old paint layers before coating over it. Remove weak and unsound layers until down to a sound layer that will support the new coating. Surfaces require additional preparation when three or more coats of oil base paint are present. (Request special instructions for coating over oil base paint.)
Seal gaps & cracks
Gaps over 1/8 inch and areas of unwanted water penetration must be sealed. Check areas that are known for causing problems such as corners of window sills and gaps between siding boards and casings. Never use silicone caulk with Liquid Vinyl Siding. Use a urethane elastomeric caulk with a 50 year rating. Quality sealants that meet specifications can be purchased at local paint stores, hardware stores and big box centers such as Lowes and the Home Depot. Some recommended sealants include Sherwin Williams SherMax, Sashco Big Stretch, GE Infinity 2900 and OSI Quad Max.

Liquid Vinyl Products
Painters often comment on how easy Liquid Vinyl Siding is to apply. It is 'grippier'
than paint and can adhere to a surface that may not hold a new coat of paint. Liquid Vinyl has a thick and
creamy consistency that spreads nicely and levels evenly. Use LVS products directly out of the container -
NEVER THIN OR DILUTE. The coating can be brushed, rolled or sprayed; the application method does not
affect performance as long as application guidelines are followed and the coating is applied at the recommended
minimum thickness. Surfaces must be dry before coating with a total moisture content no higher
than 14%. Use a moisture meter to verify the amount of moisture in the
substrate before coating. Reasonably priced meters can be purchased at home centers and hardware stores. New
boards and bare wood exposed by scraping and sanding should be sealed with primer before applying the LVS Base
Coat, any generic primer can be used. LVS Base Coat is not intended to be used to seal wood. Wood susceptible
to bleeding or staining should be sealed with an oil base stain block. Latex stain blockers are not
effective long term. These precautionary steps ensure a professional installation resulting in an attractive
coating that holds up for 30 years or more.
Liquid Vinyl Siding products are composed of larger particles than regular products that can settle to the bottom
of the container during transport and storage. Shake or stir into a uniform, creamy consistancy before use.
LVS BASE COAT
IMPORTANT! Apply at a spread rate of 200 S.F. per gallon (8 mil
wet thickness)
LVS Base Coat is an integral part of the Liquid Vinyl Siding coating. Surfaces must be covered completely with this special primer to prevent peeling of the vinyl coating. A suffient amount must remain at the surface to allow adequate bonding. Allow to fully cure for at least 12 hours before top coating with Liquid vinyl Siding.
VINYL TOP COAT
IMPORTANT! Apply at NO LESS THAN 100 S.F. per gallon (20 mil
wet thickness)
Stir before using and make sure colorant is uniformily dispersed. Apply evenly by brush, roller or airless sprayer. The coating must be applied at a minimum thickness of 20 mils. It can be sprayed in one heavy coat. Multiple coats are needed when brushing or rolling to achieve the required 20 wet mil thickness. Recoat time is 1 to 2 hours.

Temperature Guidelines
Temperature must stay within a specified range to allow the coating to cure uninterrupted. Coating outside
the recommended temperature range may lead to a weaken vinyl film and potential problems in the future. At
the time of coating the temperature should stay above 50°F (10°C) and remain above 50°F (10°C)
for at least two hours after completion. Temperatures should stay above 40°F (4°C) for the
following 48 hours after application and not dip below freezing. The curing process slows below 50°F (10°C)
and completely stops at 40°F (4°C). Exposing Liquid Vinyl to freezing temperatures before it has cured
can damage the vinyl particles.
Temperature should be above 50°F (10°C) during application
Temperature should stay above 50°F (10°C) for Two Hours after applying
Temperature should remain above 40°F (4°C) for 48 Hours after applying
Moisture
Surfaces must be completely dry. The moisture content of the substrate must be Less Than 14%. Use
a moisture meter to check the moisture level. The prongs of the meter should be inserted as deep
into the substrate as possible to obtain an accurate reading. Spot check surfaces in a various locations.
If the moisture content is above 14% wait for the substrate to dry out before proceeding. It is critical
that the moisture content be below 14% for proper film formation and to avoid blistering and peeling issues.
Rain
DO NOT COAT in damp weather. Do not coat if rain is expected within 24 hours or when a storm front accompanied by
heavy rain is forecasted to arrive within 48 hours. A light pop-up shower after the Liquid Vinyl film is dry
to the touch normally does not harm the coating.
Handling and Clean-up
Liquid Vinyl Siding is non-hazardous and enviromentally friendly. Keep out of reach of small children
and keep lids tightly closed on containers when not in use. LVS products clean easily with soap and water. It
is best to wipe drips and spills with a wet rag immediately before it dries. Liquid Vinyl base coat (Vinyl
Pro‑Prime) can be particularly stubborn to clean after it has dried. Paint cleaners such as Oops and
Goof‑Off are effective at cleaning dried material. Clean equipment with fresh water immediately after
use. Leave the lid off empty containers to allow any residue left in the container a chance to dry before
disposing and properly dispose empty containers according to your local ordinances.
Storage and Self Life
Liquid Vinyl Siding has a shelf-life of 5 years or more when properly stored. It is best to tranfer contents
into the smallest air-tight container possible. Store in an area where temperatures remain between 40°F
(10°C) and 90°F (32°C). Do not expose containers to freezing temperature.
